Comprehensive Guide to SSC MTS and Havaldar Exam Preparation 2023

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts various examinations to recruit candidates for multiple posts in different departments of the Government of India. Among these, the Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) and Havaldar examinations are quite popular. These exams consist of two papers – Paper-I and Paper-II, along with a Physical Efficiency Test/ Physical Standard Test (PET/PST) specifically for Havaldar posts.

Paper-I is a computer-based objective type test with four sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude, General English, and General Awareness. Each section comprises 25 questions, each carrying one mark. The total duration of the test is 90 minutes. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer, a factor that candidates must keep in mind while attempting the paper.

Paper-II, on the other hand, is a descriptive type test. It includes one question of writing a short essay or letter in English or any language included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. This test carries a maximum of 50 marks and lasts for 30 minutes. It is qualifying in nature and is conducted only for those candidates who qualify in Paper-I.

The Havaldar posts require an additional Physical Efficiency Test/ Physical Standard Test (PET/PST), conducted by CBIC at various centers across the country. The PET/PST includes various physical tasks such as running, jumping, and candidates have to meet certain standards of height, weight, chest, etc.

Candidates who qualify in both the papers and PET/PST (for Havaldar posts) are called for document verification and medical examination before the final selection. The final selection is based on the performance in Paper-I and the preference of States/ UTs/ CCAs exercised by the candidates in the online application form.
